Property Description
A stroll away from Piermont’s riverfront cafes, galleries, and farmers market — and just minutes from Sparkill’s acclaimed dining scene — stands a sandstone cottage with nearly three centuries of stories within its walls. Built in 1731 in the Dutch style, this home is believed to be the oldest in Piermont, and, according to the Piermont Historical Society, once served as a tavern that hosted George Washington. Inside, original details abound: wide-plank floors, hand hewn beamed ceilings, deep-set windows, and two oversized fireplaces anchor the living spaces. Recent updates, including a new bathroom and new roof. Upstairs, the unusually large primary bedroom is filled with natural light, while the second bedroom offers flexible use as a guest room or office. A private brick courtyard garden, shielded from the street, offers a quiet backdrop for morning coffee, outdoor gatherings with friends, or evenings under the stars. From here, you can wander to Tallman State Park’s trails, bike along the river, kayak in the creek or enjoy dinner at one of Piermont’s award-winning restaurants. Only 25 minutes to Manhattan, this home is both a historic treasure and a true retreat — where every day can feel like a weekend escape.
